Meta tags that earn clicks (without keyword stuffing)
20 August 2026 · 6 min read
Meta titles and descriptions do not guarantee rankings, but they strongly influence whether someone clicks your result. Weak copy wastes good positions.
Write titles for humans first
Lead with the primary topic or service. Add location or differentiator only when it helps clarity. Avoid repeating your brand name twice unless the page is brand-critical.
Stay under ~60 characters when possible so the full title shows on mobile.
Descriptions should promise an outcome
Answer: what will the visitor get? Use active language and one concrete detail (timeline, area, proof). Aim for 120–160 characters.
Do not stuff keywords. Google often rewrites descriptions—still worth writing a strong default.
Ship and measure
Paste tags into your site <head>, then re-check the URL after publish. Pair meta updates with a full audit so technical issues do not undermine your new copy.
